After 10 years in prison, Driver (Dwayne Johnson) has a singular focus - to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he’s finally on his mission…but with two men on his trail - a veteran cop (Billy Bob Thornton) just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) with a flair for the art of killing and newfound worthy opponent. The hunter is also the hunted. It’s a do or die race to the list’s finish as the mystery surrounding his brother’s murder deepens, and new details emerge along the way hinting that Driver’s list may be incomplete.
Dwayne Johnson (Gridiron Gang, The Scorpion King, The Mummy Returns), Billy Bob Thornton (Eagle Eye, Bad Santa, Monster’s Ball) and newcomer Oliver Jackson-Cohen star alongside Carla Gugino (Watchmen), Maggie Grace (Taken) and Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) in Faster, a coproduction between CBS Films, the film division within CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS), and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment. George Tillman Jr. (Notorious, Men of Honor, Soul Food) is directing from a screenplay written by Joe and Tony Gayton. Faster started principal photography in February 2010. The film is produced by Castle Rock Entertainment’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer, along with Tony Gayton and Robert Teitel. Joe Gayton and Dara Weintraub are executive producers.
Very solid revenge flick, 25 November 2010

Normally when it comes to movies the Rock is in, I'm not expecting Oscar-worthy material.
The revenge flick doesn't fall into this category either, unless you count The Rules of the Game or something on that level.
This, however, is a damn fine example of the genre and one of the best I've ever seen. The look and feel of the movie is beautiful. The dialog, what little there is, has one or two misses, but the tension is solid throughout.
If you've seen the trailer, you'll know if you like this sort of film. If you do, go watch it! If you don't... Well, why are you reading this?
Billy Bob Thornton has 'skeezy' down to a T. And the Rock plays the 'man on a mission' with deft skill. The Killer, Oliver Jackson-Cohen occasionally has interesting moments, but is sadly a very wimpy example of the breed. Then again, compared to the character of the Driver, even the most stone-cold killer would find it a tough contest at best.
For those that say the Driver's revenge list is as easy as a grocery list, I'll have to admit it's more realistic for it. A man that driven and determined against a group of criminals that weren't at the top of their class to begin with - well, I know where I'd put my money.

Faster is an epic movie of a man taking the law into his own hands, when it does not work for him. The main character Driver, although never identified by name, is ex convict sentenced for a soured bank robbery. After the job, his brother is murdered, when the group is doubled crossed. Having served 10 years and replaying that event over and over again the only thing on his mind is vengeance as he walks out the prison doors.
A buddy outside the prison has a list-awaiting Driver containing the names of the people involved in his brother's murder. Upon obtaining this list Driver sets out to kill of the names on the list one by one. Furious over the sour loss of his brother, the only real person in his life, he will stop at nothing until justice is served. However, the journey has a hitch or two. A cop and contract killer are sent out to bring Driver in or take him down.
While Faster is bent on seeking vengeance, it contains thought-provoking, positive elements. The man serving as lookout during the robbery has a complete turn around with his life. While his involvement in the robbery is questionable and possibly wrong, he is able to find forgiveness and works to help wayward young men. Driver and his ex-girlfriend supposedly conceived a child together. Upon hearing that his son had been aborted during his sentence, Driver's ex-girlfriend seeks forgiveness and amends for what she had done.
Although Driver wants nothing more than vengeance for his brother's death, everything he encounter seems to suggest vengeance is not the right course of action. All he wants is to see justice served but cannot seem to focus exclusively on dishing it out. Through his ex- girlfriend and a preacher on the radio, Driver hears that forgiveness to be the answer over and over again. While his heart's desire is bent on serving justice, he is constantly prodded to consider if that is what his heart truly wants.
When evil crosses our path such as having someone close murdered the easy solution is to seek vengeance as Driver does. Vengeance in that moment seems to be the only means to find peace again. In such moments one is confronted with the belief that vengeance brings peace and will make everything right again. However, in such moments one hardly ever hears about or considers forgiveness as an option. Why? Forgiveness is often pushed aside because it does most often does not bring about justice. More importantly how can one who murdered be forgiven without consequence?
But for Driver, forgiveness is constantly put in his path to consider its importance. The preacher on the radio knows that vengeance and killing does not bring peace into one's heart. Rather such measures, as the preacher knows, only lead one farther away from peace and forgiveness. In the end who is really killed the brother or Driver himself because any good that what left in him is now gone. With this in mind the preacher seeks to remind him "God did not put you down here to be perfect, but to be saved." And if this is not enough the preacher asks for Driver's forgiveness when Driver shows up to kill him. So will Driver find peace with himself in the end? Will he find forgiveness or will he be destroyed from the inside because he lost all that was good.
All in all Faster, is an action packed adventure movie sure to entertain. With the building up of an intense interplay between finding forgiveness and vengeance, the movie leaves one guessing until the end as to what Driver finds.
